[music |Garbage - It's all over but the crying]

So I was watching the Hammer Metal Gods or whatever on UTV, for all of about 7 minutes. It was entertaining. However watching the moshes made my back ache at the thought of it! :)

But they played a band called "Bullet for my bloody valentine" or something. Now I'm not saying they're ripping anything off... but their intro sounded very like the music for Episode 1, Mission 1 of Doom 1. Still, overall, it makes me want to get money and go to Fibbers some night. A while back I just really wanted to cut loose for a while and just seek oblivion in that lovely stench hole. The reason I'd choose there is: they do good snakebite and black. Probably one of the only places in Dublin that can do it in any way decently.

Anywho, I'm getting slightly better at this whole poi thing. I've finally figured out the trick to the Butterfly. This is something I've got a feeling I should have mastered much quicker.

This may be the masochist in me talking but poi is getting more boring now that I'm hitting myself less. This is probably a good thing... mainly because I'm muchly scared that the frigging things will burst. Y'see, they're homemade. And I don't know how to sew, so if it comes to trying to make my own, I'd have to learn to sew first, and I'm not paying 50 quid just for something that can be made for under 5 euro. Thing is, I know they can burst. I managed to burst one of my first ones within an hour, so I may be a wee bit protective - I probably won't be letting people use them unless I'm damned sure they can use them. Lots of the time now I keep feeling like I should be keeping them going. My hands feel empty if I amn't swinging them around.

On Tuesday, when I was walking to the briefing, an unholy amount of rain Happened. Luckily I had an umbrella. After it cleared up, I decided that I'd just start swinging around the umbrella on its cord. So I was walking through greenhills (not exactly the most reputable of areas) feeling far more protected because I had a trusty flail, swinging it in a figure of 8. And when I felt adventurous I could throw a loop over my shoulder (without getting an umbrella thumping my back)... all while just walking along through Greenhills. Yeah, I may not be much good at it, but I'm definately liking it. :D

A cheap, effective way of making poi is to make sock poi. Just get a sock, put something in it as a weight (like a juggling ball or another sock thats been rolled up), tie a knot in the other end (for something to hold on to) and voila! poi. Repeat with another sock, ensuring the length and weight are the same. I have a set of ribbon poi that rose made me, and a set of sock poi that I actually use more often cos they'rer easier to learn new tricks with.

Well done for getting the butterfly! Now learn the weave!!!

Re: Weave. Yeah, that's the plan. Plus I have plans for when I master it... :D

As for making my own poi, I think given the ones I have, I'll probably stick with that style. It's essentially some cloth, some shoe laces and some fishing spinners and some keyrings. Plus I figure the sewing might have a bit of a meditative effect, which is never bad.

When I first read this I was convinced you meant something other than the poi. Please re-read and confirm on the back of a fifty euro note if I am in fact going mad.

Eeep! I didn't even see the possible implications there!

Oh my. Taken out of context like that, it really does look quite filthy! Incredibly so.

This is what happens when you write purely from a stream of consciousness and don't bother to reread your post!

Thanks! It's mainly instructions I'd need. But I think it's mainly the sewing that I need to learn.

And it wouldn't hurt for me to make another pair, the two I have aren't exactly an even length (so they have knots tied), and worse they're not exactly evenly weighted - it made a difference at first, then it didn't... now it does again (partially because I'd been doing some one-handed stuff and as a result, my right hand had gotten stronger, so it was really used to the slightly heavier one and now I can really tell when I'm using the slightly lighter one with my right hand.

So, this may result in me getting a microgram scales when it comes to making 'em :P Just to be a proper nerd. Plus it'd be a damned good excuse to get a microgram scales - well an excuse that doesn't involve drugs.
