Recruitment drives done well. [Jan. 30th, 2008|06:13 pm]

Today, we had a talk from Cisco about jobs and internships. It's the first recruitment talk where I walked away thinking "I really want to work for them."

Sure, they did the standard things like t-shirts, pens and all of that, but unlike IBM, it's less about them saying "Here's a service we're advertising, and by the way, we might be doing jobs." The more these guys talked, it was about the work they did, who they wanted, and were upfront in saying "Look, you'll probably stay late every so often, but we're really flexible with hours in return." Overall, I figured that they seem to be a lot like Sun, but making a profit. It kinda makes sense when you realise that both companies came from Stanford U around the same time, so they both have a very similar ethos. They did something that made me not want to give them a hard time. Maybe it's that nobody uttered a single word about open source (seriously both Sun and IBM have pissed me off on that for different reasons), or maybe that it just reminded me so much of my old job in Sun, but with fiscal solubility. Add to that the fact that they'll take interns from final year if they're planning to do a postgrad, and it makes me think "This is a sound company that I would actually WANT to work for!"

ahhhhhh

Is it incredibly incredibly sad that I thought that was a reference to the person giving the talk who you thought resembled the captain of Deep Space Nine?

... don't answer that.

I already know it is.

At least you didn't say "Oh, the thong song people!"

Thong thong-thong thong thong!
