A member of an Irish trans list that I'm on decided to come out as trans to their GLB soc in NUI Maynooth - this is the reply to them.
I'm really not liking NUI Maynooth at the moment.
Update: It turns out that mikadosoc is essentially the netsoc of Maynooth and they just provide forums for every soc on their campus, so the people who replied there weren't actually to do with any of the GLB soc in NUIM. At any rate, enough people decided to offer something a little more constructive than "Give him/it a break". HOWEVER, I still reckon that if it's got the GLB soc's name on it (or any society for that matter), it should be moderated by someone who is on the committee of that society.
That's unbelievable :(
I feel I have been transported back to the Year of the Dancing Dog in manner of Night Watch.
BTW, is it normal practice for the people on the Maynooth board to assign you a sexuality upon joining? Some people just told that girl what gender and sexuality she is! Gaaaahhh!
Hmmm, that's not good!!! Wow.
Yeah, like Ellen said, is it? I would've thought it was, oh, I don't know, a place where someone who needed it could get support and not be judged. And who are they to decide anyway!?
Oh feck's sake.
Not only were people calling her straight and being downright.. stupid, insulting, assholic.. But even the people who were writing 'on her side' insisted on calling her a guy! I mean, I thought Cork was the last bastion of transphobia/total ignorance, but it seems like this place is incredible compared to them.
No, the last bastion of intolerance is everywhere. Grrrr.
