I got the hang of the weave today!
It's strange, I was playing with my poi while drunk last night, and I messed up a cross that I was trying to do. Instead I found myself in a position where I could only recover by entering what turned out to be the weave, but I couldn't keep it going for too long.
So, I tried it again today, and when I'd realised I'd done it, I thought that it was amazingly simple, and had to wonder why I couldn't manage it before. The strange thing is, that one-handed practice thing that Larry mentioned, and is on the Home of Poi site, didn't help at all. I noticed I was doing it later, but it was more that I realised that it was a really simple move, with my other hand playing follow the leader just half a cycle behind.
I found after a short while I was just in a trance - my body had taken over, so my mind went into a different mode. After a while, I just decided to watch my hands, and accentuate the movement, and it still went ok. It was like those hand movements you see in music videos where people are in a club, where they have move their arms (i.e. it's fictional), and are playing trance music, where it looks like dancers are raising a chalice and are moving their hands about that chalice.
That was fun. Now to learn more fun things.
