|Reason why I'm not a parent #1082745 (aka "A Boy called Cú")

Last night I was thinking about someone I know who has the same name as someone in Irish legend. At first I thought "I bet the parents thought they were clever calling him that", and then I started to think of people doing stupid things like Mr and Mrs Jackson deciding to call their son Michael, or Mr and Mrs Hudson with their son Rock. It just annoyed me of the thought that people might deliberately name their kids after famous people or characters.
I was about to get up a full head of steam on this topic until I realised that if I was a Cullen with a son, yeah, I probably would call him "Cú". In fact, in that case, I'd insist on him having the middle name Cluichs as well, just to make his life more difficult. This may explain why places like New Zealand have lists of silly names that you're not allowed call your kid. (Strangely the name Aoife is in there)
