My PC has had what will probably be its last upgrade before we ditch the most of the guts and go for something shinier (which is a few years off). It got itself an extra gig of ram and this.
In this time I've learnt a few things:
- There's no such thing as "Just a matter of..." - I thought it was "just a matter of" slapping in that lovely shiny new graphics card. Then I had all sorts of troubles.
- I really REALLY like the internals of Sun (or at least Sparc) hardware now. It's so much easier to do things like change ram or whatever, a lot less cables fly about. The more I play with this stuff, the more I really, really, REALLY like it.
- And this one is extremely technical, but if anyone else is ever caught out by it, I want this to be google-able: If you're ever putting an MSI NX7600GT into a MSI KT4 Ultra motherboard (old hardware I know) - DISABLE the onboard sata controller (Fasttrak 376) on the bios before you install the card! Otherwise it WILL not boot. (That was one of my "just a matter of" issues).
Anyway, now I can play some fun games on relatively high details. *grin*
